Dear neighbors,

Last week I traveled to the Middlesex County Mosquito Extermination Commission in Edison, NJ. There I heard from local and state officials, physicians and scientists, and those charged with regulating the mosquito population about the importance of combating the growing Zika crisis.

Nearly 2,000 Americans have contracted Zika in the United States with 80 of those cases now in New Jersey. The World Health Organization has declared Zika a global public health emergency, and the United States must meet this threat head on.

Next week change is finally coming to Washington. Over the last two years, the American people have heard a lot about change, but what exactly will that change be and what will it mean to our constituents?

Today, change begins here in the House. Today, we will vote on legislation that will strengthen the Children's Health Insurance Program so that we can ensure 11 million children have access to quality health care.

Today the House must act decisively and in bipartisan fashion to begin the process of rescuing an economy that has been spiraling downward for some time.

Without action, we are warned that credit markets will freeze up---preventing families from getting car and home loans, students from qualifying for college loans and small businesses from being able to pay their employees or purchase new products.

This week the crisis on Wall Street hit fever pitch, but families all over the country have been struggling for months. 84,000 Americans lost their jobs last month and the number of unemployed Americans is the highest it has been since 1992.

Congress responded quickly to the White House’s call for a financial rescue package. The White House should now join us in supporting a solid package for Main Street.

Instead of looking towards the past, Democrats have been exploring both immediate and long-term solutions to America's energy crisis.
