Highlights Medicare and Medicaid Successes & the Need to Protect and Strengthen the Programs
LONG BRANCH, NJ – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) visited the Bayshore Senior Center in Keansburg, NJ to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid and to highlight the need to continue the fight in Congress to protect and strengthen the programs. Pallone was joined by Keansburg Mayor Thomas Foley and Deputy Mayor George Hoff.
Pallone made the following statement on the anniversary of the programs.
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that Deal Fire Company No. 2 received $57,501 in federal funding allocated as part of the Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) award program. The money will be spent on operations and safety programs, including professional training, wellness and fitness programs equipment, personal protective equipment, modifications to facilities, and supplies that support firefighting and non-affiliated EMS operations and safety.
WASHINGTON, DC – With prescription drug abuse on the rise, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06), Ranking Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, today applauded his Committee’s passage of the National All Schedules Prescription Electronic Reporting (NASPER) Act. The program provides grant funding to states for prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs). PDMPs aid in combatting the growing prescription drug abuse epidemic by helping prescribers, pharmacists, and law enforcement officials track the misuse of prescription drugs.
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced Port Security Grant Program funding in New Jersey’s 6th Congressional District. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency. The Carteret Fire Department will receive $40,000, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office will receive $98,336 and the Perth Amboy Fire Department will receive $144,544.

In Recognition of Dodd-Frank’s 5th Anniversary, Pallone and Consumer Protection Advocates Discuss the Past, Present and Future of New Jersey Consumer Protection
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following what Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) called “unacceptable” delays and inaction by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the Congressman has stepped up his call for the banning of electronic cigarettes, also known as e-cigarettes, on airplanes. Pallone today sent a letter to DOT Secretary Anthony Foxx urging the agency finalize a rule – which was originally proposed by DOT nearly four years ago, in September 2011 – banning the use of e-cigarettes on domestic and international commercial flights.
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) introduced the Equality Act as an original cosponsor of the bill. The Equality Act would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to make it illegal to discriminate against someone based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. The legislation would apply to public accommodations, federal funding, education, employment, housing, credit, and jury service.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today announced a $350,000 grant to Rutgers University’s Papers of Thomas Edison project from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The grant will allow the project to prepare for publication two volumes (volumes 9 and 10) of the papers of inventor Thomas Edison, covering the period 1888-1892.
