Dear neighbors,

I know that for many working families the cost of paying medical bills without health insurance can be overwhelming. That is why I pushed to enact the Affordable Care Act, which provides insurance through the federal healthcare marketplace. I’m working to make sure all New Jerseyans are aware of the open enrollment period and what they can do to get covered.

New Brunswick, NJ - Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced the winners of Sixth District’s 2017 Congressional App Challenge for high school students. Steven Vorona, Rishi Salwi, Kyle Liu, and Charvi Shah from High Tech High School in Middletown, NJ won for their app ‘EmergenServe’, an app designed to help first responders respond to emergencies. The App uses an intuitive platform to connect victims with first responders by providing detailed information on the type of and location of the emergency.

Washington, DC – Today Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06), led floor debate for House Democrats and helped pass the bipartisan Brownfields Enhancement, Economic Redevelopment, and Reauthorization Act of 2017 through the House Representatives. As the Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Pallone worked closely with his colleagues in a bipartisan fashion to advance the reauthorization legislation out of the committee earlier this year.

Ever since superstorm Sandy hit New Jersey five years ago, we have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in making our state more resilient and able to withstand the effects of climate change. An important part of this effort has been protecting our coastal communities through flood-resistant infrastructure.

Woodbridge, NJ– Today at the Woodbridge waterfront, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) called on Congress to pass the bipartisan Brownfields Enhancement, Economic Redevelopment, and Reauthorization Act of 2017, which is scheduled to come for a vote this week in the House of Representatives. The brownfields program was created in 2002 by bipartisan legislation authored in the House by Pallone and the late Rep. Paul Gillmor of Ohio.

Oceanport, N.J. – Today at Monmouth Park, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) called on the federal government to allow states to legalize sports betting and online gaming. In December, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments in Christie v. NCAA. The case centers around a 1992 federal law entitled the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), which prohibits sports betting nationally with certain exceptions.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) and Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-09) voted against H.R. 2874, the so called “21st Century Flood Reform Act”. The bill would make flood insurance more expensive, less available, and less fair for millions of Americans.

NEWARK, N.J. – Today in Newark, NJ, Governor-elect Phil Murphy and Democratic members of the New Jersey House delegation discussed the impact of the House Republican’s tax plan on New Jersey. The plan is estimated to cost many New Jersey families thousands of dollars a year. A total of 1.8 million New Jersey households deduct a cumulative $17 billion in state income or sales taxes from their federal taxes. Those tax deductions would be eliminated under the House GOP bill.

Washington, D.C. – Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) delivered the following remarks on the House Floor this morning during consideration of H.R. 3922. Republicans are demanding cuts to Medicare and the Affordable Care Act to reauthorize the CHIP and funding for community health centers. The cuts to the Prevention and Public Health Fund in H.R. 3922 would cost New Jersey $5,000,000 this year and more than $32,000,000 from 2019-2023.
