Solis (D-CA) today introduced legislation that would permanently protect communities' rights to know the amount of harmful chemicals released into the environment in their neighborhoods. The Toxic Right-to-Know-Protection Act prevents the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from ever implementing their plans to weaken toxic reporting requirements that have been in place for 20 years.

The conference report reconciles differences between House and Senate bills that were passed earlier this year. The final legislation now goes to the President's desk for his signature.

The SAFER grant is provided with the goal of enhancing the ability of grantees to attain and maintain 24-hour staffing and to assure that their communities have adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards.
