Washington, DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today applauded House passage of an appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2022 that included his provision that would ban offshore drilling in specific areas for one year. The Pallone provision prohibits the Secretary of the Interior or the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management from conducting or authorizing oil and gas leasing and related activities along the Pacific coast, Atlantic coast, Florida's coast, and in the Arctic Ocean.

The funding is provided through the Department of Homeland Security's Nonprofit Security Grant Program that supports physical security enhancements and coordination activities for nonprofit organizations that are at high risk of a terrorist attack. Pallone spearheaded passage of the bill that regulates PFAS chemicals, cleans up contamination, and protects public health. According to a report, there are 521 water systems in New Jersey that are contaminated with PFAS.
