WASHINGTON, DC —Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that low-achieving schools in the state of New Jersey will receive $9,485,864 in federal funding through the Department of Education’s School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. New Jersey is one of nine states across the country that will receive more than $71 million in funding through the SIG program.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) sent a letter to the Secretaries of Homeland Security and Transportation, Jeh Johnson and Anthony Foxx, calling on them to issue a waiver that would allow a shipment of rock salt to be delivered to the Port of Newark. The shipment, currently aboard a foreign-flagged vessel, is unable to be unloaded in New Jersey due to a provision in the Merchant Marine Act of 1920, commonly known as the Jones Act.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) and U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) announced that the Middlesex County Utilities Authority will receive more than $10.8 million in federal funding for continued projects as a result of Superstorm Sandy. The funding is being provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) via the Sandy aid package Pallone fought for in Congress.

WASHINGTON, DC —Yesterday, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) spoke at the Committee on Natural Resources hearing about the need to make changes to the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act in its reauthorization. The Magnuson-Stevens Act is the main law governing fisheries management in the United States. The legislation, originally enacted in 1976, was most recently reauthorized in 2006.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that this morning, Jo-Ellen Darcy, Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works), signed the Port Monmouth Project Partnership Agreement, the contract between the Army Corps of Engineers and the state of New Jersey formally outlining the terms and conditions of Port Monmouth flood control project. Construction on the project will move forward in the coming months.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. (NJ-06) visited the Puerto Rican Action Board (PRAB) headquarters in New Brunswick, NJ to highlight the importance of Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding, especially during cold winter months. LIHEAP assists eligible individuals and families by providing a benefit that goes toward lowering their heating and cooling bills. PRAB handles all LIHEAP applications for Middlesex County.

NL Industries ordered to pay $79M to remediate lead contamination

(NEWARK, NJ) – U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Congressman Frank Pallone (D-NJ) today praised the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for directing NL Industries to conduct a $79 million cleanup at the Raritan Bay Slag Superfund site in Old Bridge and Sayreville. Soil and sediment at the site were found to be contaminated with lead-containing waste that was used to construct a seawall and jetty at the popular beach.
