Washington, D.C. – Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) delivered the following remarks on the House Floor this morning during consideration of H.R. 3922. Republicans are demanding cuts to Medicare and the Affordable Care Act to reauthorize the CHIP and funding for community health centers. The cuts to the Prevention and Public Health Fund in H.R. 3922 would cost New Jersey $5,000,000 this year and more than $32,000,000 from 2019-2023.

Long Branch, NJ –Today along the disaster evacuation route in Long Branch, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) unveiled legislation to combat price gouging after natural disaster declarations. Natural disasters have a history of resulting in unconscionable price increases for basic consumer goods such as gasoline, hotel rooms, food, and water. After Sandy, there were numerous reports of these unreasonable price increases throughout New Jersey. Congressman Pallone was joined by Beverly Brown Ruggia from NJ Citizen Action at the event.

New Brunswick, NJ – On Monday, October 23 at the Jewish Renaissance Medical Center in Perth Amboy, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) discussed the urgent need to reauthorize the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Community Health Centers (CHC), and other important public health programs, with state and local officials, medical professionals and health and children’s advocates. The program’s authorization expired on September 30th.

Washington, DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) led over 40 Members of Congress in a letter to Secretary Tillerson asking that the Trump administration speak out against a recent crackdown on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people in Azerbaijan. Last month over 80 people, mostly gay men and transgender women were arrested, while at least 45 were detained, beaten and tortured in the capital city of Baku. Authorities raided bars, clubs and apartment parties and confiscated detainees’ phones to find more suspected LGBTQ people to target and arrest.

On Wednesday October 18, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) and the New Jersey Sierra Club commemorated the 45th anniversary of the Clean Water Act by denouncing the efforts of the Trump administration to dismantle the Clean Water Act. In February 2017, President Trump signed an executive order, directing the EPA to begin the legal process for rolling back the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule. He also used the Congressional Review Act to overturn the Obama Administration’s Stream Protection Rule.

Long Branch, NJ- Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that FEMA has awarded $1,619,466.55 in federal funding to reimburse Deal for the replacement of the Conover Pavilion and to repair a parking lot damaged as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The area sustained significant damage during Sandy and the FEMA funding, which will pay for 90% of the total project cost, will work to restore the area to pre-storm conditions.
