Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Representatives Gary Ackerman (D-NY) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), the Democratic and Republican Co-Chairs of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans today joined former Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) in efforts to secure funding for the study of cardiovascular disease and diabetes among Indian Americans.
"Mr. Speaker, I rise in strong opposition to CAFTA---another trade agreement that ships jobs overseas to countries where workers are exploited.
"How many American jobs do we have to ship overseas before Republicans wake-up and realize that free trade is not the same as fair trade? The American economy simply cannot benefit from an agreement with six countries whose combined purchasing power is equal to that of Columbus, Ohio.
"The energy agreement that Congressional Republicans cooked up is wrong for America and is certainly wrong for New Jersey.
Washington, D.C. --- Following recent reports that plans are underway to build a new railroad system connecting Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey that specifically exclude Armenia, U.S. Reps. Joe Knollenberg (R-MI) and Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), co-chairmen of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, last week introduced legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives that explicitly prohibits any U.S. assistance to the project unless Armenia is included.
"Mr. Speaker, yesterday, July 20th, marked the 31st anniversary of an illegal and inexcusable act by Turkey. Thirty-one years ago yesterday Turkish military forces illegally invaded Cyprus, forcing nearly 200,000 Greek Cypriots from their homes. These Greek Cypriots became refugees in their own country, and have remained refugees for the past three decades.

Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today voiced his opposition to Rutgers University's proposed plans to eliminate Douglass College. On Monday, a Rutgers University task force announced plans to combine Douglass with three other undergraduate colleges -- Rutgers, Livingston and University College -- effectively eliminating the all women's Douglass College.
