Washington, D.C. --- The U.S. House of Representatives today approved a giant water resources development bill that included funding for the Union Beach hurricane and sto rm damage reduction project said U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ).
The New Jersey congressman said the project area includes approximately 1.8 square miles of land along the coast of the Raritan Bay. The area is located in low elevation regions with numerous small creeks providing drainage.

Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Rush Holt (D-NJ), who requested the project be included in the bill. The watershed restoration project will be the first of its kind in New Jersey, and among the first in the entire nation.

The New Jersey congressman requested $500,000 in federal funding for the establishment of the Institute, as part of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2006 Foreign Operations Appropriations bill.

During a speech on the House floor, Pallone lauded the President and his House colleagues for maintaining military assistance parity between Armenia and Azerbaijan, approving $5.75 million for each country.

The resolution recognizes the importance of Americas beaches as key parts of the countrys economy, natural heritage, and way of life. It also stresses the progress made in recent years to improve our shorelines and the need for strong policy to continue improving the quality of the nations beaches.
"I applaud the House Homeland Security Committee for today taking a long-overdue look at chemical plant security. This is one of the most critical public safety issues in many parts of the country, especially New Jersey, and we have waited far too long already to see congressional action.
