SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-6) and Assemblyman Patrick Diegnan (D-Middlesex) visited Spring Lake Park to discuss the dangers posed by synthetic plastic microbeads commonly used as exfoliants in cosmetics and personal care products, like face wash, soap, and toothpaste. These small bits of plastic can slip through water treatment systems after they are washed down the drain. As a result, these microbeads often end up in local streams, rivers and larger bodies of water.

Discusses 50th Anniversary of Selma Civil Rights Marches and Women’s History Month

LONG BRANCH, NJ – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-6) spoke to students in the AP American Government & Politics class at Long Branch High School about the latest news from Congress and other current events. Congressman Pallone answered questions from students, recounted his recent experience at the commemoration of the Selma to Montgomery civil rights marches in Alabama, and discussed Women’s History Month.

Reflects on Struggles of the Past and the Work Still to Be Done

WASHINGTON, DC — This weekend, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-6) joined fellow lawmakers, civil rights leaders, and community activists in Alabama to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery civil rights marches. The march, led by Pallone’s now colleague Congressman John Lewis (GA-5), helped spark the civil rights movement in the United States and, ultimately, led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-6) released the following statement in response to the Christie Administration’s decision to settle New Jersey’s $8.9 billion environmental damage lawsuit against ExxonMobil for a mere $250 million. The settlement comes after an 11-year legal battle to recover damages from ExxonMobil for the contamination of more than 1,500 acres of wetlands, marshes, meadows and waters in northern New Jersey:

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-6) announced that the city of Long Branch, NJ will be receiving more than $7 million in federal funding to construct a sheet pile wall in order to prevent damage from future storms. The Long Branch boardwalk, as well as the bluffs, bulkheads, and adjacent roads, were severely damaged as a result of Superstorm Sandy. The funding is being provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) via the Sandy aid package that Congressman Pallone fought for in Congress.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06), along with U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker, and Congressmen Bill Pascrell (N.J.-09), Albio Sires (N.J.-08) and Donald Payne, Jr. (N.J.-10) announced a combined $458,635,200 in federal Sandy relief grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) to rebuild and make New Jersey’s transit network more resilient to future natural disasters. This grant was made possible through the Sandy Aid package that Congressman Pallone and the NJ lawmakers fought for in Congress.
