South Amboy, NJ --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today joined State Assemblyman John Wisniewski, South Amboy Mayor Jack O'Leary and New Jersey TRANSIT Executive Director George D. Warrington at the official opening of a new pedestrian overpass and plaza at the South Amboy Intermodal Transportation Station.

Washington, D.C. -- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today secured $10 million in federal funds to complete improvements to the rail, bus passenger, and parking facilities at the South Amboy Intermodal Transportation Station and for the construction of a parking garage at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick.

Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today secured $2 million in federal funds for the U.S. National Park Service to construct a ferry terminal and pier at Sandy Hook and to continue construction on the Sandy Hook Multi-Use Path.

The funds were included in the Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users ("TEA-LU"), a $285 billion six-year transportation reauthorization bill that was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives today. The bill now awaits consideration by the U.S. Senate.

Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today secured $4 million in federal funds for the design and construction of a new recreational pier in Long Branch. Pallone said he hopes the federal funds will help the city attract additional money from state and other sources to move forward on the project, which is of historical significance to the city.

"Mr. Speaker, I rise in support of the Pascrell/LoBiondo/Menendez amendment, which would protect New Jersey's ability to combat the influence money plays in the contracting process and to reaffirm states rights.

"The buzzword in our state these days is 'pay-to-play.' Pay-to-play means that people get contracts by giving large campaign contributions to politicians. Pay-to-play wastes tax dollars by awarding contracts to influential donors rather than the lowest, most efficient bidder

My opening remarks at last years budget oversight hearing expressed serious concerns about what was a disturbing trend in the Bush administrations priorities -- the apparent low priority given to the budgets of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Washington, D.C. --- After learning from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that budget cuts proposed by President Bush would eliminate all skimmer boat coverage of the Jersey coastline on summer weekends and holidays, U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today called the president's proposal ill-advised and urged him to reconsider this budget cut. The New Jersey congressman expressed his displeasure with the cut in a letter to the president today.

Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today said his office has talked with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to make sure that the Deal Lake flume would be open in time for the spring herring runs. According to the New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife, the runs of fish are not likely to begin until mid-April.

Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today admonished the Bush administration for again slashing funding for beach replenishment and shore protection programs, calling the cuts "an insult to shore communities."

Long Branch, NJ --- One day after calling on the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Inspector General (IG) to investigate calling card problems our soldiers are now dealing with in Iraq, U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today talked with officials at AT&T about the problem and sent a letter formally asking the DoD Inspector General Joseph E. Schmitz to conduct an investigation into how prevalent these calling card problems are in Iraq.
