WASHINGTON, DC — Today at a Subcommittee on Communications and Technology Hearing, Congressman Frank Pallone Jr., (NJ-06) questioned representatives of the robocall industry and experts on ways to protect consumers from the growing number of unwanted and potentially predatory robocalls. Pallone and several of his colleagues requested a joint subcommittee hearing on these issues earlier this month.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) sent a letter to Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) admonishing his administration’s refusal to fund New Jersey’s Comprehensive Tobacco Control Program. Programs like this serve as a statewide effort to establish smoke-free policies, help tobacco users quit smoking, and prevent potential users from becoming addicted. The funding for New Jersey’s Tobacco Control Program was first slashed completely in Fiscal Year 2013 and has remained at zero since.

Long Branch, NJ – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that the State of New Jersey has been awarded a $1,279,255 grant through the Department of Justice’s FY 2016 COPS Anti-Heroin Task Force Program (AHTF). AHTF is a competitive grant program designed to advance public safety by providing funds to investigate illicit activities related to the distribution of heroin or unlawful distribution of prescriptive opioids, or unlawful heroin and prescription opioid traffickers through statewide collaboration.

WASHINGTON, DC — Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Environment and the Economy Subcommittee Ranking Member Paul Tonko (D-NY) partnered with other safe drinking water advocates in the House today to introduce the Safe Drinking Water Act Amendments of 2016. The bill would make comprehensive changes to ensure safer drinking water for communities nationwide. The proposal would be the first major update to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) in twenty years.

Washington, D.C. – Last night, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06), was presented an award from the Coalition to Stop Opioid Overdose for his “tireless work to stop the opioid misuse, addiction and overdose epidemic.” He is one of 8 members being honored for their work on opioid addiction. As the Ranking Member on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Congressman Pallone led Democratic efforts to pass the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) through the House of Representatives this summer.

Washington, D.C. – Today, H.R. 670, the Special Needs Trust Fairness Act passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 383-22. The bill was introduced by Congressmen Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) and Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) last year and would enable a disabled individual to set up a Special Needs Trust on their own behalf. A Special Needs Trust is a special type of trust that is designed to supplement certain daily living expenses and medical care.

LONG BRANCH, NJ - Today, Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. (NJ-06) released the following statement on the recent bombings taking place in New Jersey and New York.

“While there is still much to learn, what is clear is that law enforcement has done an outstanding job since the first incident in Seaside on Saturday, having already captured a suspect in these incidents. We will pray for the speedy recovery of the officers injured in the apprehension of the suspect.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-6) applauded the reopening of Long Branch’s West End post office. The new West End Postal Station is slated to open today at 81 Brighton Avenue. The previous site was closed for emergency repairs back in August of 2014.

“I appreciate the work of the USPS and the Long Branch city government to reopen the West End location,” said Pallone. “I am confident that the location on Brighton Avenue will improve access to postal services for members of our community.”
