Washington, D.C. --- The U.S. House of Representatives today approved a water resources development bill that authorizes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to move ahead with small-scale watershed restoration projects like stream bank restoration in Marlboro, said U.S. Reps. We keep on hearing all these doomsday scenarios from the White House and our Republican colleagues about the emergency supplemental bill. It would be nice if they'd listen to the President's own Defense Secretary who said this week that our timelines are already creating positive results in Iraq. And yet, the president threatens to veto the bill, and says that the money is needed immediately.
It's time for a reality check.
As the president prepares to meet with Congressional leaders today to discuss the emergency supplemental he should listen to his own Secretary of Defense, who said that Congress' timelines have been useful in forcing the Iraqi government to make compromises that have been elusive in the past.
