The library was one of just four nationwide to receive the 2023 National Medal for Museum and Library Service from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

Howard Marine Sciences Laboratory at Sandy Hook to the federal government. This National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) federal lab had been operating under a lease agreement with the state.
