The waiver, which was rejected by the Bush administration in December 2007, was supported by New Jersey and 12 other states.

WASHINGTON, DC —Today House Democratic leaders introduced legislation to expand the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, which provides health insurance currently for more than 7 million children. This legislation will protect coverage for those children and expand it to include an additional 4 million children who would otherwise be uninsured.

Medicare beneficiaries who enroll in Medicare Advantage private fee-for-service (PFFS) plans face significant financial risks, according to a GAO report released today. These private plans charge exorbitant cost sharing fees that are much higher than original fee-for-service Medicare and often design elaborate and illegal “prenotification” hurdles to leave beneficiaries bearing much of the cost burden of their care.
