NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) announced the winners of the 2014 Sixth Congressional District High School Art Competition, the recipients of the prestigious Congressional Award, and this year’s U.S. Service Academy nominees at a Congressional Awards Ceremony. Students representing several local high schools were honored at the reception, held at Rutgers University. In addition, distinguished guests discussed the importance of the fields recognized.

WASHINGTON, DC — Upon discussions with key agencies and officials Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) voiced his concern today that the decision to cut the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Region 2 aerial helicopter coastal monitoring program could undermine the success of the multi-agency New York Bight Floatables Action Plan.

“Every agency plays an important and distinctive role in this plan, and if EPA walks away from the table I fear it could have serious environmental impacts on the Jersey Shore economy,” Pallone said.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that Rutgers University Cell & DNA Repository (RUCDR) Infinite Biologics, the world’s largest university-based biorepository, will be receiving up to $19 million in federal funding. This renewal contract, awarded to RUCDR by the Department of Health and Human Services over a five year period, will be used to maintain and expand their NIDA Center for Genetic Studies (NCGS).

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that the Sandy Hook Bay Marina in Highlands, New Jersey will receive $692,890 in federal funds for repairs to an older section of the marina that was damaged as a result of Superstorm Sandy. The funding is being provided by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service through the Boating Infrastructure Grant (BIG) program. This allocation to the Sandy Hook Bay Marina is a portion of more than $16 million in BIG grants for boating infrastructure projects across the country.

Each year from Memorial Day to Labor Day, EPA’s “Coastal Crusader” monitors the waters along the Atlantic Coast for debris, such as trash, oil slicks and algal blooms known as floatables.
