WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06), the senior Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee, applauded the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for taking a major step to update nutrition labels on food packages for the first time in two decades. The FDA’s landmark proposal is intended to help parents and other consumers make healthier choices in light of new public health trends and new studies linking diet to various chronic diseases.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) sent a letter to Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) admonishing his administration’s elimination of New Jersey’s Comprehensive Tobacco Control Program. Programs like this serve as a statewide effort to establish smoke-free policies, help tobacco users quit smoking, and prevent potential users from becoming addicted. The funding for the New Jersey’s Tobacco Control Program, first slashed completely in Fiscal Year 2013, remains at zero for Fiscal Year 2014.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) sent a letter to Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ), calling on him to immediately use the funds from the federal grant awarded to New Jersey under Section 1311 of the Affordable Care Act. Congressman Pallone called on Governor Christie to use the approximately $7.5 million that the state was awarded for outreach and education on the ACA and to facilitate enrollment in the new health care marketplace that opened on October 1, 2013.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. (NJ-06) visited South Plainfield Middle School in South Plainfield, NJ to increase awareness among parents, schools and health professionals of pediatric cardiomyopathy and the risk of sudden cardiac arrest Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) that many children face. He also discussed the Cardiomyopathy Health Education, Awareness, Risk Assessment and Training in the Schools (HEARTS) Act, which Congressman Pallone reintroduced in February 2013.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, November 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health held a hearing at which H.R. 669, the “Sudden Unexpected Death Data Enhancement and Awareness Act,” was reviewed. The bill, introduced by Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06), the senior Democrat on the Subcommittee, would amend the Public Health Service Act to help better understand and enhance awareness about unexpected sudden death in early life.

Senate for passing a bill that will help to ensure the safety of compounded drugs and our nation’s pharmaceutical supply chain. Pallone, the top Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee and a leader on this issue, was a coauthor of the bipartisan Drug Quality and Security Act, H.R. 3204 that passed the House in September 2013. The bill now goes to the President for his signature.

LONG BRANCH, NJ—Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. visited the Boys and Girls Clubs of Monmouth County’s Asbury Park Unit where he toured the facility, observed fitness programs and took part in a juice tasting of juices made by kids. Pallone also discussed the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and lauded the Boys and Girls Club’s Triple Play program, which is designed to (1) educate youth about good nutrition, (2) make physical fitness a daily practice and (3) develop individual strengths and good character.

Pallone visited with the staff and consumers signing up through the new marketplace.
