Today, Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) appeared at a House Committee on Natural Resources oversight hearing on the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (Magnuson Act), the legislation that has set the framework for determining how much of any fish stock can be harvested where and by whom each year in federal marine waters. The Magnuson Act is set to be reauthorized before next year.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr., a senior member of the House Natural Resources Committee and the Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans and Insular Affairs confirmed that recreational fishing infrastructure such as marinas, tackle and bait stores and public access points that provide fishing access are eligible for disaster assistance under the fishery disaster declaration.

WASHINGTON DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today sent a letter to Acting Secretary of Commerce Rebecca Blank urging that the Department declare a federal fishery resource disaster in New Jersey so local fishermen and businesses may receive much-needed federal assistance. Hurricane Sandy devastated much of coastal New Jersey and severely impacted the state’s fishing industry and the infrastructure that supports it.

WASHINGTON DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today participated in a Natural Resources Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans & Insular Affairs (FWOIA) subcommittee hearing on H.R. 6096, the Atlantic Fisheries Statutes Reauthorization Act of 2012. The bill, which Pallone introduced with Congressman Jon Runyan (NJ-03), reauthorizes a number of vital fisheries conservation programs to help protect species like Atlantic Striped Bass and Atlantic Sturgeon.

BELMAR, NJ – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today visited the Shark River Inlet to highlight maintenance dredging that began there on June 20. The dredging is conducted by the Army Corps of Engineers to improve the safety and accessibility of the inlet. Funding for this project was included in the Fiscal Year 2012 budget at Congressman Pallone’s request.

Addresses commercial and recreational fisherman at the Keep Fishermen Fishing Rally

WASHINGTON D.C.— Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today called for passage of his bill The Flexibility and Access in Rebuilding American Fisheries Act of 2011 at the Keep Fishermen Fishing Rally in Washington D.C. Thousands of recreational and commercial fishermen from across the country attended the rally in support of Pallone’s bill.
