Discusses 50th Anniversary of Selma Civil Rights Marches and Women’s History Month

LONG BRANCH, NJ – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-6) spoke to students in the AP American Government & Politics class at Long Branch High School about the latest news from Congress and other current events. Congressman Pallone answered questions from students, recounted his recent experience at the commemoration of the Selma to Montgomery civil rights marches in Alabama, and discussed Women’s History Month.

EDISON, NJ – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) hosted an event at Middlesex County College to highlight President Obama’s plan to make community college free for responsible students. Congressman Pallone was joined by Joann La Perla-Morales, President of Middlesex County College; New Jersey Assemblyman Patrick J. Diegnan, Jr.; Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios; and students of the college.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) joined several of his colleagues in calling on Rutgers University and 17 other universities to protect the health of their students by ending practices that allow them to use university debit cards to pay for indoor tanning. In light of Congressman Pallone’s letter, Rutgers University intends to end the practice of allowing their students’ debit cards to pay for indoor tanning by January 1, 2015, and he hopes other universities follow suit.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that the Academy for Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences in Woodbridge, New Jersey has been named a National Blue Ribbon School for 2014. The academy was one of 337 public and private schools from across the country to be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School this year.

The event will provide a forum for students who are interested in attending one of our nation’s prestigious U.S. Service Academies to learn more about the process for admission.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – Today Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) joined students at New Brunswick Middle School for breakfast as part of the “Breakfast After the Bell” program. “Breakfast After the Bell,” or “Breakfast in the Classroom,” is a program that serves breakfast to students once the school day has officially started, rather than before school, when most students have not yet arrived.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that Rutgers University Cell & DNA Repository (RUCDR) Infinite Biologics, the world’s largest university-based biorepository, will be receiving up to $19 million in federal funding. This renewal contract, awarded to RUCDR by the Department of Health and Human Services over a five year period, will be used to maintain and expand their NIDA Center for Genetic Studies (NCGS).

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) and Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) led members of the New Jersey Congressional Delegation in sending a letter to President Obama urging him to accept Rutgers University’s invitation to deliver the keynote address for its 250th Anniversary Commencement in 2016. Rutgers University, which is located in Congressman Pallone’s district, is one of the largest and most prestigious research universities in the nation.
