'This is not the time to raise fees on families that are already struggling...' Pallone Says In Letter to the National Park Service

Long Branch, NJ – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. Thursday wrote Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe regarding his concerns about how changes at the Hazlet Post Office will affect consumers. The plan shifts staff and other resources away from the Hazlet Post Office to the Matawan Post Office.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. Thursday announced almost $3 million in funding that will bolster infrastructure and ease mobility in the region. A grant for $2.5 million will fund improvements at the Bayshore Ferry Terminal in Middletown. Planned improvements for this project will replace the bulkhead retaining wall at the Bayshore Ferry Terminal in Middletown.
Grants awarded also include $300,000 for the Long Branch Pier and Ferry Terminal in Monmouth County.

During Visit to Belmar, Legislators Announce Bill Containing Stronger Safety Standards for Beaches

BELMAR – U.S. Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ-06) today announced they would introduce the Clean Coastal Environment and Public Health Act of 2011. The legislation would reauthorize and improve the landmark Beaches Environmental Assessment and Coastal Health (BEACH) Act, which was written by Senator Lautenberg and Congressman Pallone and signed into law in 2000.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. Wednesday announced a $4.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation in support of the National Transit Institute at Rutgers. The NTI is a highly-respected research, training, and educational institute that concentrates on public transportation. These funds will support safety and security training, planning and advanced technologies.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. Tuesday in a Natural Resources Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans and Insular Affairs hearing questioned the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and expert witnesses on how a failure to collect sufficient scientific data compromises scientific management of fish stocks and forces reduced quotas as a result of the uncertainty. Lower quotas adversely affect the economic vitality of the recreational and commercial fishing industries and related coastal businesses.

Washington, D.C. – On the 37th anniversary of Turkey’s invasion of Cyprus, Congressman Frank Pallone called for Turkey to end the illegal occupation of northern Cyprus and to turn over property that rightfully belongs to the Cypriots and others like U.S. citizens. Turkey’s invasion of Cyprus on July 20th, 1974 forced nearly 200,000 Greek Cypriots to flee their homes and made one-third of the Cypriot population refugees in their own country.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. Friday criticized the Obama Administration for moving forward with seismic surveying in the Atlantic in preparation for oil and gas drilling. In a House Natural Resources hearing, Pallone questioned Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement Director Michael Bromwich about the environmental harm caused by seismic exploration and the implications the testing has for offshore drilling.
