Calls on House Republicans to Vote on Bipartisan Bill Expanding Criminal Background Checks

New Brunswick, NJ – Congressman Frank Pallone joined with community activists today outside of his New Brunswick office to rally for Congress to act on common sense solutions to reduce gun violence and make our schools, communities and streets safer. Washington, DC — Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06), top Democrat of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health joined with the Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Democrat, Rep. Henry Waxman (CA-33), to introduce new legislation, "The Gun Violence Prevention and Reduction Act of 2013." The bill will protect American children and their families from the epidemic of gun violence by banning access to certain weapons, strengthening the nation's mental health infrastructure, and improving the understanding of gun violence.

“The not guilty verdict handed down in the murder trial of George Zimmerman marks a heartbreaking chapter in our nation’s criminal justice system. Nothing can take away the profound sadness of Trayvon’s family for having lost their loved one, and my thoughts and prayers go out to them.
