*****Public Advisory***** Pallone to Host Public Forum on Highlands Flood Control Project Monday, February 9 at 7:00 P.M.

January 26, 2004

In an attempt to provide area residents with information and get feedback on a proposed flood control project for Highlands, U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) invites area residents to a community forum with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the proposed Highlands flood control project, Monday, February 9 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Robert D. Wilson Community Center, located at the corner of Snug Harbor and Bay Avenues in Highlands.

Highlands has historically endured flooding and storm damage along the bays after major rainstorms. The flooding has caused serious damage to homes, businesses, and roads, cutting off access to large parts of the borough. The storms have also eroded away current shore protections along the coast, leaving the town vulnerable to potential damage from future storms. The Army Corps of Engineers has begun a feasibility study of various alternatives for the Highlands shoreline that would help protect residents and area businesses from future flooding and storm damage.
