September 15, 2014

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. (NJ-06) visited the NBCUniversal Technology Center in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. The new center, which officially opened in June 2014, is home to NBCUniversal’s core technology team that aims to work with start-up companies and universities to create cutting-edge products for consumers.

“It’s no surprise that NBCUniversal chose to bring its new Technology Center to New Jersey,” said Congressman Pallone. “Our state is a crucial player in the rapidly evolving high-tech industry, and it is great to see the groundbreaking work that is being done in our community. Silicon Valley isn’t the only place where this high-level development is happening. With investments like the NBCUniversal Technology Center, the Garden State is also continuing to drive innovation.”

The 63,000 square foot NBCUniversal Technology Center represents an investment of approximately $17 million in the company’s New Jersey operations. Since the state-of-the-art center opened, it has already brought more than 300 new, high-paying jobs to the area.

Congressman Pallone toured the facility and met with NBCUniversal employees to learn more about the innovative work being done in New Jersey. He also highlighted the importance of a robust high-tech sector for job growth and economic development in the state of New Jersey and discussed the need to invest in science and technology education programs.

“New Jersey is home to more scientists and engineers per square mile than any other area of the world,” Pallone added. “And with so many top universities in our state, we are educating the future leaders in the tech industry. In order to stay competitive, we must make investments in STEM education a priority in New Jersey to ensure that we are giving the next generation the tools and training necessary to keep the United States on the cutting edge for years to come.”

Pallone was joined by Atish Banerjea, the Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer for NBCUniversal and Sanjay Macwan, the Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Media Labs. Media Labs, a new organization within NBCUniversal, is also housed within the Technology Center.
