Pallone to Visit Statewide Parent Advocacy Network

April 30, 2013
Press Release

Congressman to be Honored for Work Supporting Family to Family Health Centers

On Wednesday, May 1, 2013 Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr., (NJ-06) will visit Statewide Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN) in Newark, New Jersey at 1 p.m.  SPAN is the federally funded Family to Family Health Information Center (F2F HIC) for New Jersey, working to enhance access to quality healthcare and other services for children, youth and young adults with special healthcare needs and their families.  A strong advocate for F2F HICs, Pallone is to be honored by National Family Voices in recognition of his support for the program nationwide.

As Ranking Member for the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, Congressman Pallone has been a strong supporter of the F2F HIC program and a leader on the issue in Congress.  Last month, Pallone introduced legislation in the House of Representatives to extend funding for F2F HICs through 2016, as the program’s funding is set to expire at the end of this year.

Congressman Pallone will meet with SPAN staff and parent leaders who have been helped by SPAN's F2F HICs and other projects including the Essex Family Council, the Winning Angels Latino parent support group, the Hispanic Action Center's parent support group, and the Jewish Renaissance Foundation's Family Success Center in Perth Amboy.

F2F HICs are state-wide organizations staffed by people who have firsthand experience navigating the health care system, because they, too, have children with special health care needs and are thus in a unique position to help families and children receive the best health care counsel and support available.

Congressman Pallone will tour SPAN, meet with staff and parent leaders, discuss his legislation to extend funding for the F2F HIC program and receive an award for his work on the program.
