Pallone Touts Perth Amboy Tax Prep Services; Earned Income Tax Credits Give Back Average of $2,169 to NJ Taxpayers

April 5, 2013

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - “The free tax preparation services offered by this center and others like it are sometimes the only way people learn about the tax credits that on average give back more than $2,000,” said Pallone. “Since many New Jerseyans are still struggling to get back on their feet after Sandy, I know that this tax credit will mean the difference between poverty and liveable income for many families. If people don’t know about these tax credits, then they won’t benefit from them. I will continue to work hard to make sure people know about both these tax credits and free services such as this one.”

Last year, more than 563,000 New Jerseyans benefited from the earned income tax credit, which put an average of $2,169 back in their pockets. However, the IRS estimates that 20 percent of EITC-eligible workers do not claim this tax benefit each year.

Created by Congress in 1975, the EITC is one of America’s largest and most effective poverty reduction programs. Congressman Pallone has been a supporter of the EITC. Pallone has voted in favor of making improvement to the EITC and last year voted in favor of extending an expansion of the credit

The Jewish Renaissance Foundation’s Family Success Center and other local volunteer income tax assistance centers will continue to offer free tax preparation to low income New Jerseyans until April 15.
