Pallone Statement on Situation in Syria

December 15, 2016
Washington, DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) issued the following statement on the situation in Syria. "The reports coming out of Aleppo on the indiscriminate killings and summary executions of innocent civilians by Bashar al-Assad's forces are tragic and horrifying. Aleppo, once one of the world's most historic cities has been reduced to rubble. Its' people have suffered inexplicable horror and death at the hands of their government and its partners. "I echo U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power's recent remarks at the UN Security Council Emergency Briefing on Syria when she said, ‘The regime of Bashar Al-Assad, Russia, Iran, and their affiliated militia are the ones responsible for what the UN called ‘a complete meltdown of humanity.' The crisis in Syria amplifies the importance of keeping the United States open to refugees fleeing death and destruction. I urge the incoming Trump Administration to maintain this long-standing humanitarian policy." ###
