Pallone Statement on Senate Committee Passage of Armenian Genocide Resolution

April 11, 2014

Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement this afternoon in response to news that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee passed a resolution calling for recognition of the Armenian Genocide on a vote of 12-5.

“Today’s vote by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee is an important chapter in the effort for official recognition by the U.S. government of the Armenian Genocide. As co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, I am proud that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee acted so decisively in passing a resolution calling upon the Senate to commemorate this crime against humanity and encouraging the President to ensure that the foreign policy of the United States reflects an accurate accountant of history on the Armenian Genocide.”

“The leadership of Senator Menendez is evident in the strong support the resolution received and I commended him for his dedication to the pursuit of official recognition of the Armenian Genocide. It is now time for the House to act on H. Res. 227, calling on the President to acknowledge the facts and ongoing consequences of the Armenian Genocide.”
