Pallone Hosts Armenian Genocide Commemoration on 95th Anniversary

April 20, 2010
Washington, D.C. -- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Co-Chairman of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, will host a commemoration ceremony for the 95th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Wednesday, April 21, 2010. Featured speakers will include House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Foreign Affairs Chairman Howard Berman and Representative Mark Kirk (Armenia Caucus Co-chair).

This April will mark the 95th anniversary of the beginning of the systematic annihilation of over 1.5 million Armenian men, women and children, becoming the first genocide of the 20th Century. Over the past decade, Members of Congress have joined with civic, religious and human rights leaders and Armenian-Americans from across the country in solemnly marking this great tragedy.

On March 4, 2010, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs voted to pass House Resolution 252, Affirmation of the United States Record on the Armenian Genocide Resolution, by a vote of 23-22. The nonbinding resolution would officially recognize the actions taken against Armenians from 1915-1923 as genocide.

The event will take place from April 21, 2010 from 6-9 p.m. in the Cannon Caucus Room on the third floor of the Cannon House Office Building.
