Pallone Celebrates St. Patrick’s Day and Commemorates 100th Anniversary of Easter Rising

March 17, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) made the following statement celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising in 1916.

"For many in America of Irish ancestry, including thousands in my congressional district, St. Patrick’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate and honor the 35 million Americans who trace their heritage to Ireland. Those who immigrated to the United States from Ireland often faced great obstacles to achieve the American dream, but their determination and contributions undoubtingly make our country stronger. This holiday is truly a symbol of the success of Irish-Americans and the lasting friendship between the United States and Ireland.

“It is also a time to remember those who helped make Ireland a free and thriving nation. This April marks the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising and the proclamation of an Irish Republic at the General Post Office in 1916. The brave men and women who took up arms against England vowed to fight for ‘religious and civil liberty’, equal rights and equal opportunities for all Irish citizens. We can never forget those who died in the Uprising, and Americans and Irishmen alike must recommit to what they stood for.”

This month, Pallone attended parades in Belmar, NJ, Keyport, NJ, South Amboy, NJ and Woodbridge, NJ.
