Pallone Calls on GOP to Get to Work Creating Jobs Instead of Wasting Time on Symbolic Votes

July 11, 2012
Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) released the following statement today upon the House GOP’s 31st attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA):

“Today, the Republican House leadership engaged in a confounding waste of time, again.  For the 31st time since they took the Majority in the House, Republicans spent Congressional time and resources to vote to repeal the ACA and in the process, they squandered away another day to do the work Americans so desperately need and pass legislation to create jobs.

“The ACA is the law of the land and Republican efforts to halt the work of Congress by holding symbolic votes on its repeal are little more than tilting at windmills and distract from the real and serious issues facing our nation.  Today’s vote is a disappointment to all unemployed or underemployed Americans who have rested their hopes in their nation’s leaders to work for real solutions to grow our economy and open up opportunities for new and better jobs.

“Republicans have made it clear that they are more interested in pursuing their own ideology than doing the work of the people.  The ACA expands affordable, quality health care to millions of Americans who were previously uninsured, requires insurance companies to cover those with preexisting conditions, stops the practice of claiming womanhood as a preexisting medical condition, ends lifetime limits on insurance claims, covers lifesaving preventative health services, closes the Medicare Part D ‘donut hole,’ and allows young adults to stay on their parents’ medical coverage to age 26.

“Regardless of all of its benefits, the GOP continues to pursue a misguided agenda of repealing the ACA that flies in the face of what the American people want and need.  It is long past time for Congress get to work on real problems instead of trying in vain to upend a law that will keep our nation healthy and strong.”
