PALLONE ANNOUNCES PISCATAWAY RECIPIENT OF THE ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT

February 11, 2010
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) announced Thursday that River Road Rescue Squad, Inc., in Piscataway, NJ received $18,068 in federal funding allocated as part of the Department of Homeland Security Assistance toFirefighters Grants awards. The money will be spent to improve emergency response capabilities by training firefighters and first responders, and purchasing updated protective equipment.

These funds will provide invaluable training and equipment which will serve Piscataway well, said Pallone. The River Road Rescue Squad will make better informed decisions in emergency situations as a result of more training and information. This program will keep our first responders and those that they protect safer, and will undoubtedly save lives.

The AFG is a program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and DHS and is part of a coordinated effort to improve the Nations ability to respond to emergency situations. In 2009, 43 AFG grants were awarded in New Jersey, amounting to over $3.2 million.
