Pallone Announces FEMA Grant to Buy Out Seven Flood Affected Middlesex Homes

Dec 13, 2011 Issues: New Jersey

Washington, DC — Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. Tuesday announced that over $1.9 million in funding was approved to buy out seven residences along the Raritan River in Middlesex Borough that were affected by Hurricane Irene in August. The Middlesex properties are part of a larger allocation and effort to mitigate the effects of flooding across the state.

“This grant eases a significant financial burden for some of my constituents who feel the worst of New Jersey’s flooding problem,” said Pallone. “Most importantly, it takes these families out of harm’s way.”

Across the state, 95 properties in eight communities will receive a total of $28 million. The funding is available as a result of a Major Presidential Disaster Declaration for Hurricane Irene which Pallone requested.

“Now that FEMA has awarded this funding, I urge that they quickly move forward with acquiring them to prevent future damage,” Pallone added.
