Pallone Announces Edison Fire Grant Award
February 16, 2011
“Our fire fighters and first responders deserve the best possible tools we can provide while they risk their lives to protect us every day,” said Pallone. “This funding will purchase equipment and also free up additional funds to help keep firefighters on the job and better serve the Edison community,”
The AFG program is part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Department of Homeland Security and is part of a coordinated effort to improve the nation’s ability to respond to emergency situations.
“I am pleased with the $121,500 FEMA award First Aid Squad #2 received for vehicle acquisition,” said Edison Mayor Ricigliano. “This works hand in hand with our efforts to encourage greater cooperation between Edison and the volunteer squads. This award better enables us to enter into a contract to provide the additional funding needed to ensure the best possible emergency medical services in Edison Township.”
Over the past year, over $400,000 in grant money has been awarded to fire departments in the sixth Congressional district to improve community emergency services. During fiscal year 2010, the AFG will continue to build on this progress in awarding another $390 million to first-responder organizations that need support to improve their capability to respond to fires and emergencies of all types.
