Pallone Announces Avon Fire Grant Award

March 2, 2011
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) announced Wednesday that the Avon-by-the-Sea Volunteer Fire Department will receive $26,163 in funding provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The fire department will use the grant to purchase equipment and provide training to improve operations and safety procedures at the department.

“I’m glad to see Avon benefit from this grant from the Department of Homeland Security,” said Pallone. “We owe it to our first responders to provide them with the best possible training and equipment as they risk their lives to protect our communities.”

The AFG program is part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Department of Homeland Security and is part of a coordinated effort to improve the nation’s ability to respond to emergency situations.

Over the past year, over $400,000 in grant money has been awarded to fire departments in the sixth Congressional district to improve community emergency services. During fiscal year 2010, the AFG will continue to build on this progress in awarding another $390 million to first-responder organizations that need support to improve their capability to respond to fires and emergencies of all types.
