Pallone Announces $4.3 Million for Perth Amboy Marina Repairs

Jun 25, 2013 Issues: Hurricane Sandy, New Jersey

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced $4,319,560 in federal funding to Perth Amboy for repairs to walkways, bulkheads, marina fishing piers, docks, and electrical systems at the Perth Amboy Marina as a result of damages incurred during Superstorm Sandy.

“The Perth Amboy Marina was a celebrated place for boaters, fishermen, families, visitors and residents to enjoy before Sandy flooded the marina’s facilities, destroyed docks, sunk boats or forced them on land causing just unbelievable damage,” said Congressman Pallone.  “Perth Amboy has done an absolutely amazing job already in getting the marina and park back to working order, but it’s imperative that the federal government provide assistance as well.  I’m relieved that this grant will cover the cost of the countless additional repairs needed for this community treasure.”

The funding is awarded to Perth Amboy from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and will cover 75 percent of the city’s entire cost for the project.  The complete electrical system, water system and fire extinguisher units will be replaced on all docks and piers.  The work includes replacing or repairing 79 light poles, 28 benches, 9 floating docks and other infrastructure.  Three fishing piers will be repaired, and a dock mounted sewer pump-out station will be replaced.  The gazebo and flagpoles at the Wall of Honor Monument will be also replaced.
