Pallone Announces $2.8 Million in Grants for Monmouth Ferry Terminal Projects

August 18, 2011

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. Thursday announced almost $3 million in funding that will bolster infrastructure and ease mobility in the region. A grant for $2.5 million will fund improvements at the Bayshore Ferry Terminal in Middletown. Planned improvements for this project will replace the bulkhead retaining wall at the Bayshore Ferry Terminal in Middletown.
Grants awarded also include $300,000 for the Long Branch Pier and Ferry Terminal in Monmouth County.

“I commend the Department of Transportation for seeing the importance of these infrastructure projects for my constituents,” said Pallone. “These projects will make sure both of these terminals provide safe and reliable transportation when people need them, and the planning and construction phases of these projects will also employ local workers.”

In total, more than $4.5 million in grants were awarded to New Jersey for infrastructure improvements.

“The Bayshore Ferry eases commutes for thousands of people who rely on it on a daily basis to get into Manhattan,” Pallone said. “This is a critical project that will ensure commuters can continue to rely on the ferry and will keep the local economy thriving.”

The Federal Highway Administration invited states to apply for federal funding in June from 14 grant programs.

Pallone has lead efforts to provide federal funding toward construction on the Long Branch Pier and Ferry Terminal and has previously secured funding for the pier’s design and engineering. The project creates 1,200 jobs during the construction phase and once completed, it will create 600 full-time jobs.

“Once it’s completed, the Long Branch Ferry will ease the pressure on other major thoroughfares in the region and the pier will provide recreational benefits including fishing opportunities for Jersey Shore residents.”
