NJ To Receive Health Prevention Funds
August 25, 2011
“Prevention is one of the most effective ways of protecting people from health problems and immunization is a key part of preventive measures," said Pallone. “The grant will support improved immunization registries, which will aid the planning, implementation and evaluation of services."
The federal funds will go to the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.
The money could also be used to help school-based clinics immunize school children, Pallone noted, which strengthens the public health infrastructure.
"Knowledge and awareness are key, especially for childhood immunizations," Pallone said. "It's important that parents, teachers and local health officials are aware of the importance of immunization and know where the services are available. "
According to the Center for Disease Control, every dollar spent on immunization saves from five to 27 dollars.
