News Advisory: Pallone Announces Census Road Tour

March 30, 2010
Stops to Include Plainfield, New Brunswick, Long Branch

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Frank Pallone (NJ-06) Thursday will kick off a Census Day tour of the Sixth Congressional District at the Neighborhood Health Center in Plainfield, NJ. In an effort to encourage New Jerseyans to fill out their Census forms, Pallone will speak with constituents about the importance of the Census at locations in Plainfield, New Brunswick, and Long Branch.

“Most people don’t realize Census data determines the level of funding allocated to schools, hospitals, senior centers, public works projects and many other things,” said Pallone. “Inaccurate Census data will put New Jersey residents at risk for having one less vote in Congress, leaving them without the representation they deserve.”

Census data helps to determine how more than $400 billion per year in federal funding is distributed to local governments to fund critical services utilized by countless residents. It also is responsible for reapportioning seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and for the subsequent redistricting of state and local governments.

More than 130 million addresses across the nation received a census form in March 2010 either by U.S. mail or hand delivery. By law, the Census must be taken every 10 years to correctly apportion political representation throughout each state.
