Congressman Pallone Announces $245,000 Grant for Wheelchair Accessible Buses in New Brunswick

August 2, 2012

WASHINGTON DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced today that the Suburban Transit Corporation will receive more than $245,000 in federal grant money to retrofit six buses with wheelchair lifts in New Brunswick. The grant was awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Over the Road Bus Program.

“This federal funding is especially important as it helps people who need accessible public transportation options to commute around town and be independent,” said Pallone. “I am proud to support programs like the Over the Road Bus Program that will increase accessibility in and around New Brunswick.”

DOT’s Over the Road Bus Program provides assistance to operators of buses used substantially or exclusively for intercity, fixed route, over-the-road bus service. The funding may go towards adding lifts and other accessibility components to new vehicle purchases and purchasing lifts and associated components to retrofit existing vehicles.
