Pallone Votes to Reverse Trump’s Unconstitutional National Emergency

February 26, 2019

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) voted for H.J.Res. 46, which would terminate President Trump's fabricated national emergency for the U.S. southern border. The legislation passed the House of Representatives. Pallone is an original cosponsor of H.J.Res. 46.

"For the past two weeks constitutional scholars, members on both sides of the aisle and the American people have denounced President Trump's disgraceful national emergency. There is no national emergency on our nation's southern border and the president's actions to circumvent Congress's spending authority and our Constitution must be reversed. While I am encouraged that H.J.Res. 46 passed the House, I am deeply disturbed that a majority of Republicans refuse to defend our Constitution and provide a veto-proof majority to end this fake emergency.

"I will continue to fight the president's unlawful power grab on the floor of the House, through the courts, or other means deemed necessary to restore our democracy."

Pallone pointed out that President Trump is attempting to take billions of dollars' from high-priority military construction projects that ensure our troops have the essential training, readiness and quality of life necessary to keep the American people safe and reallocate those funds to build an ineffective, expensive wall along the southern border. This has the potential to impact more than $50 million specifically intended for New Jersey facilities at Picatinny Arsenal and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
