Pallone Tours Vaccination Mega-Site in Middlesex County
Edison, NJ – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today toured the vaccination site at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center with Governor Phil Murphy in Edison. The site is one of six mega-sites in New Jersey designed to help accelerate COVID-19 vaccinations around the state.
“I’m pleased to see New Jersey’s vaccine expansion is well underway. For more than six months, I’ve been calling on the Trump Administration to establish a coordinated response to the coronavirus pandemic that helps states equitably and efficiently distribute vaccines. As Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I’ve helped pass four major bills that will help with this process,” Pallone said. “I’ll work with the incoming Biden Administration to ensure that New Jersey has the funding and support it needs to continue expanding vaccination efforts.”
Pallone authored key health provisions in the omnibus and coronavirus relief legislation that was signed into law in December. Last week, Pallone announced that New Jersey would receive over $80 million from the bill to support vaccination activities and over $500 million to increase COVID-19 testing. He expects more funding to become available in the coming months. The omnibus and coronavirus relief bill provides $69 billion in critically needed funding to crush COVID-19 while providing support for patients and health care providers. This includes $22 billion for testing, contact tracing, surveillance, and mitigation, $19 billion for vaccine and therapeutic research, development, and procurement, and nearly $9 billion in additional funding to support distribution of lifesaving COVID-19 vaccines that will help bring an end to the pandemic.
