Pallone Statement on Election of Mike Johnson as Speaker of the House

Washington, DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) issued the following statement on the election of Congressman Mike Johnson as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives:

“Marjorie Taylor Greene and right-wing Republicans could not be happier with the election of the new Speaker. Congressman Mike Johnson is simply another extreme Republican, whose anti-democratic and anti-abortion record presents a clear and present danger to the American people. He was a leading architect of former President Trump’s plot to overturn the 2020 election, supports criminalizing abortion nationwide and stripping rights from the LGBTQ+ community, and has worked to slash Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. His far-right extremism is toxic and could have severe consequences for Americans.

“The contrast between House Democrats and House Republicans could not be more clear. House Democrats will continue to work to lower costs for Americans families, support access to reproductive rights, ensure equal treatment for all Americans regardless of who they love or their gender identity, and make sure Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid remain strong for years to come. We will keep working to keep the government open and fulfill our duty to the American people.”
