Pallone Hosts Fireside Chat with Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo on Historic Investments in U.S. Economy

October 13, 2022

New Brunswick, NJ – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) hosted a fireside chat today with U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Gina M. Raimondo on the Biden Administration's historic investments in American manufacturing, innovation, and supply chains. The discussion also highlighted the progress Middlesex County has made in developing business and innovation in New Jersey, including the New Jersey Innovation and Technology Hub in New Brunswick.

As Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Pallone has been instrumental in passing legislation to bolster the economy. He helped lead efforts to pass the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act in the House in July that invests over $52 billion to bolster semiconductor manufacturing, boost resilience in U.S. supply chains, create good-paying jobs, and lower costs for consumers. President Biden signed the bill into law in August.

"I'm proud to welcome Secretary Raimondo to New Brunswick, so she can hear about the great things Middlesex County is doing to boost our economy in New Jersey. Together with the Biden Administration, we're investing in American workers, innovation, and manufacturing," said Pallone. "The CHIPS and Science Act will lower costs for consumers, create good-paying American jobs, and end our dangerous dependence on foreign manufacturers of critical goods. New Jersey has a well-known reputation for leading the nation in research and manufacturing and we're working together to continue that legacy by investing in American workers and businesses right here in our backyard."

"I was thrilled to join Chairman Pallone today to discuss the CHIPS and Science Act and how we can foster the next generation of American innovation, strengthen domestic manufacturing and create jobs," said Secretary Raimondo. "The CHIPs and Science Act, which passed thanks to Chairman Pallone's leadership, will make once-in-a-generation investments to build a semiconductor ecosystem in the U.S. that will protect our economic and national security."
