Pallone Holds Grants Workshop to Support Local First Responders
Long Branch, NJ – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today hosted a grants workshop with representatives from the Federal Emergency Management agency (FEMA) and local fire departments. The workshop provided an overview of FEMA's Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) Program that provides support to local fire departments and municipalities to increase the effectiveness of firefighting operations and conduct fire prevention and safety programs. Over 55 first responders and municipal staff participated in the workshop.
"Our firefighters and first responders are essential to our communities' safety and well-being. It's important that they know the funding available to them through federal grants to successfully carry out their mission," said Pallone. "It is a great honor to work in Congress to help our first responders address the equipment, training, and safety needs of fire departments. I want to thank everyone who joined us today. My district offices in New Jersey are available to answer questions about federal grant opportunities."
"Edison Township has greatly benefited from AFG grants. These grants have helped us equip our department with the resources it needs to continue to provide life-saving services in Edison," said Andrew Toth, Fire Chief, Edison Township. "I encourage any municipality interested in learning more about these grants to contact Congressman Pallone's office."
AFG grants are provided to local fire departments and unaffiliated EMS organizations to help address a variety of equipment, training, and other fire-related EMS needs. The types of basic equipment the program provides funding for include infrared cameras, personal protective gear, hazmat detection devices, improved breathing apparatuses, and interoperable communications system.
