July 12, 2019

The Congressional App Challenge is a great opportunity for students to showcase their technical and creative skills

Long Branch, N.J. – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that his office is participating in the Congressional App Challenge (CAC), a coding competition for students in middle and high school. Students who reside in or attend school in New Jersey's Sixth Congressional District are eligible to compete.

"Participation in the Congressional App Challenge is a great opportunity for students to showcase their technical and creative skills," said Congressman Pallone. "Past submissions have been cutting edge and forward thinking, and I am looking forward to seeing what our students will submit this year," said Pallone. "America needs more programmers to maintain American competitiveness in technology and science fields. It is critical that we invest in our youth now and promote STEM education, and this challenge is an excellent way to promote the innovative work students in my district are doing."

Established by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2013, the App Challenge is an annual nationwide competition intended to highlight the value of computer science and STEM education. This competition allows students to compete with peers in their own district by creating and exhibiting their software application or "app" for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice.

Students are encouraged to register online here before September 10th. The submission deadline is November 1st. A panel of judges will select the winners. The winning app for each district will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol building, on the U.S. House of Representatives' website and on the Congressional App Challenge website.

Please visit Congressman Pallone's website for more information on this nationwide challenge.
