Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) on the Attack on American Personnel in Libya

September 12, 2012

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) released the following statement on Wednesday condemning the attack that killed four American personnel in Libya, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens:

“My thoughts and prayers this morning are with the families of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith and the two other American personnel who were killed in the horrific attack in Benghazi, Libya. These Americans should be remembered for their bravery and commitment to freedom as they helped Libya during a critical period of transition.

“I sharply condemn the violent attack on American personnel at the U.S. diplomatic post. Our Foreign Service officers who courageously serve us overseas are integral to our diplomatic relations and often put their lives at risk to ensure our nation’s presence and strengthen international partnerships around the world. Attacks against American interests and personnel are intolerable and there is no justification that any group or individual can ascribe to rationalize such senseless violence. We must continue to remain vigilant and honor the memory of the lives lost in Libya by continuing to join with our allies to advance the work these heroic Americans began.”
