Pallone Statement on Trump Public Lands Grab

April 27, 2017

Washington, D.C. –Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) issued the following statement on President Trump’s executive order calling for a review of national monument designations under the Antiquities Act. The executive order calls on the Interior Department to conduct a review of national monument designations over the past two decades to determine whether changes or modifications need to be made to monument proclamations, jeopardizing lands that are currently protected.

“Today the Trump administration continued its relentless attack against our environment, our efforts to combat climate change and to preserve our nation’s natural treasures. Presidents of both parties have worked with Congress to protect more than a billion acres of public lands, lands which belong to all Americans. Surrendering this territory to corporate interests will endanger the tourism industry surrounding these lands, prevent millions of families from visiting national parks and endanger the long term health of our environment.”
