Pallone Holds Sit-In and Conversation on Reducing Gun Violence in New Brunswick

June 29, 2016

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ– Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) held a sit-in and conversation on gun violence in his New Brunswick office with his constituents, local elected officials and advocates for reducing gun violence. The event was a continuation of the sit-in held on the floor of the House of Representatives last week, which lasted 26 hours. Attendees voicing their support for action to reduce gun violence included Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz, Highland Park Councilman Jim Walsh and representatives from the NJ State Nursing Association, NJ Cease Fire and the Brady Campaign.

“It is truly inspiring to see our communities rallying to demand change to reduce gun violence,” said Pallone. “My constituents have not given up. They are more committed than ever to work to prevent tragedies like the one we saw in Orlando. I look forward to bringing their stories and their views back to Congress.”

Numerous attendees voiced their opinions during the sit-in. You can find video of the event on Congressman Pallone’s Facebook page, where the meeting was broadcast live.

Pallone has called on Republican leadership to allow for the consideration of The Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act – bipartisan legislation to expand and strengthen our background checks system and the bipartisan ‘No Fly, No Buy’ bill to keep guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists.

The meeting was part of the House Democrats National Day of Action to reduce gun violence. Throughout the country House Democrats will meet with their constituents to discuss the gun violence epidemic and call on Speaker Ryan to bring up for an up-or-down vote common sense, bipartisan legislation to address the crisis.
