Pallone Announces More Than $7.6 Million in Grants for Debris Cleanup Due to Sandy

May 30, 2013

Long Branch, NJ – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced more than $7.6 million in federal funding to the township of Middletown and Sayreville for costs associated with loading, hauling and disposing of debris after Superstorm Sandy.

“As communities continue to piece themselves together after Sandy, these grants help to lessen the financial hit that our local governments still continue to face,” said Congressman Pallone. “We are all in this together, and no borough or township should have to bear the entire cost of the storm alone.”

The following grants were awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the loading, hauling and disposal of debris as a result of Superstorm Sandy:

  • $1,243,430 to Sayreville - After Sandy, Sayreville used employees and contractors to remove from public spaces 3,108 cubic yards of household goods like furniture; 3,298 cubic yards of heavy consumer goods like refrigerators and air conditioners; and 7,509 cubic yards of vegetative debris.
  • $6,363,346 to the Township of Middletown - After Sandy, the township used employees and contractors to remove from public spaces 328,414 cubic yards of vegetative debris; 65,876 cubic yards of construction and demolition debris; and 56.9 tons of heavy consumer goods like refrigerators and air conditioners.
