Pallone Showcases Edison Solar Project as a Model for $156 Million Federal Clean Energy Grant to New Jersey
Award Expected to Bring 175 MW of Clean Energy and $250 Million in Energy Bill Savings to 22,000 New Jersey Households
Edison, NJ – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr., today celebrated New Jersey’s grant from the Solar For All program and spotlighted a solar project in Edison as a prime example of how the federal investments he’s secured will expand affordable clean energy access across the state. As Ranking Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Congressman Pallone championed the Inflation Reduction Act’s Solar For All initiative that awarded New Jersey $156 million to expand community solar and meet high demand from residents. In addition to saving New Jersey residents $250 million on their energy bills, the Solar For All award will help the state reduce reliance on fossil fuel energy and slash dangerous greenhouse gas pollution that is causing stronger heat waves, storms, and sea level rise.
Currently under construction on the roof of a Prologis warehouse at 45 Patrick Avenue, Edison’s Solar Landscape project will cover approximately 370,000 square feet and provide energy savings of $111,000 each year to around 440 local households, about half of which are low-to-moderate income families. The project benefited from tax credits provided by the Inflation Reduction Act and is part of New Jersey’s nation-leading Community Solar Energy Program (CSEP), which was signed into law by Governor Phil Murphy in January 2024. The federal Solar for All award will help supercharge CSEP.
“Projects like the one in Edison are exactly what I envisioned when I fought to include these critical climate investments in the Inflation Reduction Act,” said Pallone. “It’s fitting that a town named after one of the greatest minds in electricity is now leading the way in energy innovation. This initiative will make clean energy accessible to everyone, especially in low-income and disadvantaged communities, while creating jobs and saving families money. I remain as committed as ever to ensuring that these community solar projects continue to grow and benefit New Jersey and the entire country.”

The Inflation Reduction Act, passed by Democrats in Congress and signed by President Biden in 2022, is the most significant climate legislation in U.S. history. The law’s Solar For All program makes solar energy more accessible to families – including those who can’t install panels on their own homes. This includes renters and those with shaded roofs, who can join shared solar sites like the one in Edison and receive credits on their utility bills. This approach not only makes clean energy more affordable but also broadens access to it.
The state expects to use the funds beginning in 2025, which will help bring more projects like the Edison site to life and make solar power a reality for 22,000 households in the next five years. This initiative will also support grid improvements, job training, and significant reductions in greenhouse gas pollution.
Pallone’s leadership in securing this funding ensures that New Jersey remains at the forefront of clean energy. His work aligns with national goals to achieve a carbon-free power sector by 2035 and a net-zero emissions economy by 2050, ensuring that every community benefits from these investments.
